Hidden within the peaceful surrounds of the Broads lies a clandestine world of air defence. RAF Neatishead, one of the oldest radar stations in the world, has been keeping our skies safe since 1941. But now the secret’s out! Housed in Neatishead’s original Grade II listed 1942 operations building, the museum is a treasure trove of stories, artefacts, and hands-on exhibits. From the hair-raising heroics of Battle of Britain’s Fighter Control to the top-secret work of the radar operators scanning the skies for Soviet spy planes, the RAF Air Defence Radar Museum tells the intriguing story of air defence.
We invite you to step into our World War Two room and learn how radar turned the tide of the war in one of our fascinating talks, held throughout the day. A visit to the atmospheric Operations Room offers the chance to experience the tensest days of the Cold War, when Neatishead fighter controllers raced to dispatch jets to intercept aerial intruders. Children and adults alike will love sitting in the pilot seat of a Jaguar or getting to grips with the controls of a Tornado.
After exploring over twenty exhibition rooms and countless hands-on displays, visitors can enjoy refreshments in our recently renovated Crumbs Café. Offering fresh Norfolk pasties and sausage rolls, and a wide range of cakes and drinks, Crumbs is the perfect pit stop whether you’re visiting the museum or just passing by.
Ranked the number one local visitor attraction on Tripadvisor, a visit to the museum is guaranteed to be a fun and informative day out for the whole family.
