North Norfolk’s environment contributes to the quality of life of local residents and plays a vital role in supporting the local visitor economy and is also home to a wealth of natural and cultural assets and biological diversity.
North Norfolk District Council’s Environmental Charter states its commitment to action in order to achieve a sustainable future for north Norfolk, showing how it will use its own resources wisely to set a direction through: its own actions; working with partners; and influencing others.
Some of the actions include: improving the biodiversity of the district and absorbing excess carbon through tree planting and providing electric car charging points across the district. Providing a sustainable communities grant fund to help communities to develop new and innovative projects which will communities improve their environment as well as their health and social wellbeing.
Visit North Norfolk works with North Norfolk District Council, regional tourism organisations and businesses to support visitors and organisations who promote sustainable tourism. Sustainable tourism means travelling by more sustainable methods and reducing your impact on the environment while still enjoying it. This can range from low impact accommodation, such as camping and glamping supporting the local economy by buying from local businesses.
Many businesses and organisations in north Norfolk have already adopted measures to reduce their impact on the environment such as recycling waste, using compostable tableware, tree planting, using solar panels, reducing the use of single-use plastic and using electric vehicles. Visitors can help to look after the environment during their visit such as using public transport or traveling by bike, recycle waste in the correct bins, buy local and follow the coastal and countryside codes.
