About
Eric’s love of cooking, spurred his desire to open his own fish chip shop in 2015. “We just wanted fish and chips in the traditional way, like I remembered it as a child living in Titchwell, on the coast in Norfolk”.
As a chef prior to starting the business, it has always been about quality for Eric. In busy season, Eric’s team makes new batter every 20 minutes. The skill of hand-cutting fish has been passed down to his team too. That means Eric chooses the large 16-32oz cuts of fish he likes, cutting this down to get a beautiful shaped piece of fish. Eric explains, “With this large piece of fish you get a head piece, a fat loin, rather than a portion fillet with a tail”.
This passing down of skills to the team is an important part of the ethos of Eric’s. The team are a part of the family; part of Eric’s extended family. The business is very much a family business. It has been growing organically, something for Eric, his wife and children to be proud of. “It's about pride rather than making lots of money. I need to have a business I am proud of”. Talking about creative food, Eric says, “I just love the creativity of it. It’s like, why wouldn’t you want every meal you have to look and taste special. That’s what I love about being a chef".
And in the spirit of being ‘not just your average chippy’, Eric’s has recently enhanced the range of creative small plates, revised these and added a few more. Eric’s has now got over 15 different small plates made with creative flair. The idea is that these can be shared with family and friends or eaten on their own as a taster. These include Halloumi and Arancini balls, Vegan Crispy Lemon ‘Prawns’ and Cheesy Pea Fritter. Also you can try tasty and interesting accompaniments like Black Garlic Mayo and something sweet too.
Fish and Chips is always a treat and a sweet treat dessert favourite is deep fried jam sandwiches, just like a squidgy warm doughnut. They ooze child-like nostalgia. With the nostalgic high-design of the restaurants, it’s worth coming down to Thornham to get a flavour of the whole experience.
This family friendly restaurant is wonderful for kids. Enjoy picnic outside in the Drove Orchard surrounding trees, or watch the kids adventure on the playboat directly outside Eric’s Fish and Chips and Eric’s Pizza. Also, don’t forget to try our branch in Holt if you are out shopping and exploring in that direction.
